Operated as a commercial fishery since 1881, Howietoun near Stirling is
one of the oldest fish farms in Scotland. Brown trout hatched at Howietoun have been stocked for angling throughout the world and are famous for their quality. In 1979, the farm was acquired by the University of Stirling and it has continued to apply new technologies to the best traditions of aquaculture. Both brown trout and Atlantic salmon smolts are available from Howietoun.
